Chelsea were in action on Wednesday night in a match that could very well have had the opposite result. Aston Villa had many calls go against them and were very unlucky to not come away with any points. Nonetheless the result was a Chelsea victory.
GK Petr Cech: 8.0
Made some crucial saves at the end of the match to save the three points for Chelsea. Not much he could do about a Benteke strike from such close range.
D Branislav Ivanovic: 7.5
Lucky to be on the pitch when he scored the match winner. Should have seen red.
D Gary Cahill: 7.5
Not involved too much but defended well when called upon.
D John Terry: 7.0
Allowed Benteke to get a shot on goal and handled a ball that was luckily not called.
D Ashley Cole: 7.0
Caught out at times but still made some useful tackles.
M Ramires: 7.5
Came to Ashley Cole's rescue when the left back was caught out but didn't contribute much in attack.
M Frank Lampard: 7.5
Average game for Frank. Passed the ball well but didn't do anything too spectacular.
M Juan Mata: 6.5
Most likely the worst match of Juan Mata's Chelsea career. He was nonexistent while he was on the pitch and his touch was heavy throughout the game.
M Oscar: 7.5
The Brazilian had more of the ball than any other player and orchestrated the attack quite well. Oscar looks to be playing the role that Mata played under Rafa Benitez and Di Matteo.
M Eden Hazard: 8.0
Dangerous on the ball, drew many fouls and made defenders look silly. A typical day for Eden Hazard. The Belgian also caused the own goal that opened up the scoring in the match.
F Demba Ba: 7.0
Ba looked better than Torres did against Hull City but still no goals for a Chelsea striker. Demba was caught offside way too much.
M Andre Schurrle: 7.0
Came on in the second half and dribbled around a few Aston Villa players. Well warranted sub for Juan Mata.
F Romelu Lukaku: 8.0
Looked more dangerous in thirty minutes than Demba Ba did in sixty. Eventually Mourinho will give Lukaku a start and that will spell the beginning of his career as Chelsea's first choice striker.
M Marco Van Ginkel: 6.5
Van Ginkel was a little too casual for someone coming on to strengthen the midfield.
Man of the match: Petr Cech
