It is no secret that ever since Rafa Benitez took over as manager of Chelsea that Fernando Torres is oozing with confidence. He even stepped up to take a penalty which didn't even occur in all his time at Liverpool. Something has definitely changed in Torres's mind that is making him play like this and it will be amazing to see if he can keep it up and lead Chelsea to raising trophies in the coming future.
But is he really back? or the better question did he ever leave. You would probably be surprised to here that even in his so called "poor form" under Roberto Di Matteo that his conversion rate was higher than in his golden days at Liverpool. These stats may be due to his higher shot rate at Liverpool, but still the critics of Fernando have been way to harsh. Fernando Torres isn't back, because he hasn't gone anywhere. Yes he may have a lot more confidence and look ten times better to the eye but lets think about the competition he is scoring on. One thing I've learned in my years of watching football is that big time strikers pad their stats against the smaller clubs and the truly elite ones find the back of the net against top clubs. Fernando Torres has never left that group of elite strikers; he grabbed a goal against Barca in the Champions League Semi-Final, and has led Chelsea to big time wins against Newcastle, Arsenal and Shakhtar Donetsk. It shouldn't be a surprise that when he scores that Chelsea is always victorious and the same goes when he plays with Spain. Fernando Torres can lead Chelsea's attack and make them the Premier League's best and with his new found confidence and stellar scoring prowess against top clubs that's exactly what he's gonna do.

Is Fernando Torres Really Back?

I'm as big a torres fan as anyone. His liverpool days were what made me fall in love with the sport (I'm American) and his style of play. I sort of agree with what you're saying. I do think, however, that he did go through a stage of poor form... remember that miss against man u when he rounded de Gea? But I also think Chelsea's style of play is mainly why he is not scoring goals. With Benitez hopefully he can change that style to fit Torres a little better because he deserves to show the world that he still is a great striker even if he lost his deathly pace.
